To be in an environment that strengthens the bonds we have with ourselves, with our loved ones, and allows us to deeply bond with nature is a gift that cannot be taken for granted. We used this philosophy as a cornerstone to approach this project. A unique lot with views to 2 valleys from the front and back of this narrow and elongated property, we wanted to situate a simple geometry carved  out to create spaces to connect and contemplate. 

The shared spaces of both levels of this home open to the exterior from 3 sides, allowing the residents to engage with the beautiful weather Southern California has to offer all year round. Each side opens to a different feel and environment. On the west, the home opens to the view of the City of Angeles in the distance. On the east, it opens to continuous valleys and mountains that eventually become the Angeleno National Forest. On the south, we have created a micro-climate with the use of a semi-indoor-outdoor environment that includes a green wall and a water feature, paying tribute to the occupant's tropical heritage. 

Formal dining is moved outside to the covered patio in the back. A deck has been added to increase the shared common areas and bring the inside out. Each of the private spaces on the upper floor has breathtaking views of either of the valleys.
